Zeller had the pleasure to welcome the South Korean pharmacist and key influencer Ms. Bohyun Lee to Switzerland this September. An exciting program, fully packed with science, product education and experience exchange was undertaken with Ms. Lee. The team of the International Division at Zeller accompanied Ms. Lee throughout the trip.

Currently, four Zeller products are on the Korean market including Redormin® (for sleep disorder), Prefemin® (for premenstrual syndrome), Cimidona® (for menopause) and Cosalin® (for allergic rhinitis).

Ms. Lee, who operates her own pharmacy in Seoul, was excited to experience the manufacturing process at Zeller and to learn more about the Zeller products from the Swiss perspective. In Korea, she regularly posts articles on the Korean pharmacist community www.dailypharm.com and educates her peers in on- and offline seminars about treatment of different diseases with phyto-pharmaceuticals. As Western phyto-therapies are still not well known in Korea, she is a pioneer in creating awareness about this therapeutic option in Korea.

The first stop of her trip was the Annual Conference of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) in Basel – the largest conference in the phyto-medicine area in Europe. Together with Dr. Si Chen, Business Development Manager at Zeller, she visited several lectures and posters about medicinal plant research, including a talk about Cimidona®, and deepened her knowledge about medical usages of plants.

The second stop was a tour through Zeller’s headquarters in Romanshorn and Zeller’s daughter company Vitaplant in Uttwil, including a visit of the production facilities, the R&D and QC laboratories and medicinal plant development facilities at Vitaplant. Ms. Lee received a detailed insight into the value chain at Zeller and could experience first-hand how plants are developed and processed in order to produce high-quality medicines.

Next, Ms. Lee had the opportunity to exchange experiences with Swiss pharmacists at several pharmacies and drug stores. Coming from Korea, she was fascinated by the size and product range in the Swiss pharmacies. She was especially amazed by the private consultation rooms, which do not exist in Korea, and is already considering implementing one in her own pharmacy. During lively discussions with the Swiss pharmacists, both parties could learn about each culture’s way of consulting patients and exchanged tips on different treatment options.

After two days full of new impressions, Ms. Lee could relax a bit on a short visit to Constance and the Lake Constance, before taking off back to South Korea with many new insights, knowledge and ideas. She couldn’t wait to share her experience with her fellow pharmacists in Korea and already started posting about her trip on her facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pharmacist.leebohyun). This international exchange was truly a great experience for both Ms. Lee and Zeller.
