The World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) organization arranges this event annually, which gives the stakeholders, working in the field of mental health, the occasion to raise awareness of the topic.

Teenage years are years full of changes: Different schools, living without the family, beginning to study or to work. Mostly these are happy changes. They can also be connected with stress and worry, leading to mental illness if not detected and treated. Additionally, modern technologies increasing stress levels, when feeling obliged to be available 24 hours a day.

In fact, half of the mental illness starts by the age of 14. Among this, depression is the third leading cause. In a population of young people, between 15 and 29 years, suicide is the second biggest cause of death1. Moreover, mental illness goes along with excessive use of alcohol, illegal drug consumption and eating disorders.

Therefore, it is important to build mental resilience. The World Mental Health Day helps to grow a recognition of mental health. Not just mentally healthy young adults have a personal great future, but also they are part of a healthy work environment, family, community and society.
